No More "Business as Usual"
The Milkweed Mercantile is a profoundly different kind of business. From our building, and our philosophy, to our product selection and our very reason for being, we do not operate on the classic American business model. We feel it is far too late, both environmentally and ethically, for business as usual. We like our way better!
The Eco Inn is an entirely "green" alternative to a traditional B&B, demonstrating that sustainability does not have to be about deprivation – there can be beauty, abundance and joy in living lightly on the earth. We provide a space for seminars (natural building, whole foods cooking, yoga, consensus, and more), plus lodging for the many people who want to visit our Ecovillage. Past visitors say that experiencing Dancing Rabbit is life-changing and inspiring.
The Café serves seasonal, local, organic meals. The ingredients come from gardeners here at Dancing Rabbit, local farmers and producers. Coffee is fair trade and organic, the wines and beers primarily organic and local. In addition to meals the kitchen produces organic baked and preserved goods for onsite dining and takeaway.
The Store sells handcrafted items, organic food products, books and ethically sourced eco items. While beautiful and appealing, the store centers on "things you need" rather than "things we want you to desire."
Milkweed Mercantile Online weaves all three components of the Mercantile into a whole cloth of eco inspiration. Inn reservations and store purchases can be easily made online. Additionally, the site will feature well-written articles on all aspects of ecological life, links to websites we believe in, and even the sounds of the prairie. You will not see any advertising here, nor will you be encouraged to purchase stuff for stuff's sake. What we hope you will find is thoughtfully prepared information presented with honesty and integrity. We don't claim to have all the answers, but welcome you to join us in our quest for a more sustainable way of living upon the Earth.
